Princeton Class of 1971

Reunions 2019

May 30 – June 2

Dear Classmate,

It’s that time of year again – our 48th Reunion is just around the corner.  We have a full array of Class of 1971 sponsored events in addition to being part of the 50th Reunion Combine hosted by the Class of 1969 in the Blair-Campbell-Joline Courtyard.  Entrance to the 50th is FREE for members of the Class of 1971 and their immediate families (spouses/partners, children, and grandchildren). Princeton Reunions are a uniquely Princeton experience, and we would love for you to make it back to campus to enjoy and participate in as many of the activities as you can.

THE CLASS OF 1971 HAS 6 SPECIAL SPONSORED EVENTS PLANNED

Gathering with our protégé Class of 2021 on Friday afternoon, 4-6 PM, Whig Hall Senate Chamber

We are planning on having a gathering with members of our protégé Class of 2021 on Friday afternoon. The goal of this meeting is to strengthen the bonds already established between the two classes, which started with the Pre-rade during 2021’s matriculation week activities 2 years ago. First, this gathering provides 1971 Reunion attendees the opportunity and to meet and interact with these incredibly talented individuals. Those of us who have met them have been very impressed, and we are confident that you will be impressed too! Second, we hope to better identify what are the unmet needs of 2021 class members that their mentor class of 1971 can potentially provide in advice, counsel, networking, and more. The Reunion registration form on the 1971 website will ask that you identify if you plan to attend this gathering.

Friday night BBQ dinner in Hamilton courtyard from 6-8 PM ($35)

We will be joining the classes of 1967, 1968 and 1970 for a combined BBQ dinner. It’s a backyard feast which starts at 6 PM, ends around 8 PM and consists of chicken, burgers (including vegetarian), hot dogs, salads, iced tea, soda, beer, and wine. The cost per person is $35. The event will be an opportunity to see both our own classmates and alums from the other classes who will be back to enjoy their off year reunion as well. The entrance to Hamilton Courtyard is accessed at the far end of Holder Courtyard just past the entrances to “upper and lower Commons.”

Class lunch on Saturday in Lower Hyphen of Chancellor Green from 11:30 to 1:30 (FREE)

Lower Hyphen is in the lower level of Chancellor Green below the Rotunda. In our days on campus Chancellor Green was where the student center was. All classmates, family members, and their guests are invited to this FREE class function. It is a great kick-off to a full day of activities on Saturday. The meal will be catered by D’Angelo Italian Market and will feature pigs in a blanket, three types of hero deli sandwich slices - Italian, Chicken Classic, and American, Waldorf salad, grilled seasonal vegetables, soda, water, beer, and wine, finishing off with Italian butter cookies. A large crowd of classmates always attends. Some members of our protégé class 2021 will also attend as our guests. Join us and catch up on changes to the campus as well as to our classmates.

The One and Only P-Rade 2 PM Saturday

1971 will gather behind Nassau Hall where we will join the other alums following the 25th and the Old Guard! Wear whatever past ’71 Reunion gear you wish and join in this celebration of all things Princeton!

Reunions in general, but the P-rade particularly, is a moving and memorable part of the Princeton alumni experience. Here is a link to one of the great Reunions/PAW stories, “Reunions Make Me Cry.” It’s a bit dated (published in 1976) about 1948's 25th Reunion when the P-rade (apparently) was an only-classmates affair and still went down Prospect Street to the baseball field. But it had the promised effect (for me at least). It definitely gets one into the mood foe Reunions!

Post P-Rade Class Reception at Prospect House starting at 5 PM Saturday (FREE)

Join your classmates, their families, and guests at this casual reception in the Library at Prospect House starting at 5:00 PM following the completion of the P-rade. This FREE class event features both a full bar and a broad selection of passed hors d’oeuvres. This event provides a further opportunity to catch up with those classmates you haven’t seen in a while.

Class Dinner at Prospect House from 7 to 8:30 PM Saturday ($71)

The culmination of the weekend is our Class Dinner in the Presidential dining room at Prospect House. We will be serving a 3-course plated dinner with a price per person of $71. Dinner starts with a salad of Baby Arugula with Roasted Peaches, Candied Pecans, Dried Tart Cherries, and Sherry Vinaigrette. The main course is a Seared Free-Range Chicken Breast with Goat Cheese Polenta, Spring Onions, Asparagus, French Radish, Baby Carrots, and Red Pepper Roasted Garlic Coulis. The dessert course is Strawberry Cheesecake Rhubarb Compote, Strawberry Crisp, and Pink Peppercorn Shortbread Cookies. Coffee and tea will be served with dessert. Individuals with dietary restrictions including a vegetarian main course chosen by the chef should indicate their needs on the website registration form, and alternative meal options can be provided. As in years past, this dinner is a spirited conclusion to a full day of Class of 1971 activities.

Following the dinner, the University will be fielding its fireworks display from Lake Carnegie which can be viewed from the lower campus.  Then around 10 PM the band party will commence at the 50th Combine.

50th Combine Theme and Activities: The Class of 1969 is our host this year and has an exciting agenda of events planned. 1969’s theme this year is “Times - They Are a-Changin.’”  They have an exciting entertainment program planned, and of course Reunions are always a good time for everyone. Classmates from Philadelphia and its environs may be particularly interested in Thursday night’s entertainment, the return of Jerry Blavat, the Geator with the Heater, the well-known Philadelphia DJ.  On Friday night 1969 will have Shama Lama and Saturday night features Robby George and Friends followed by the Bob Campanell Band. DJ Fred Campbell will entertain during intermissions and before and after live performances.

At a minimum please join us for the full array of Saturday activities June 1. Better yet come for the full weekend.
