
After 36 years, John retired from the practice of emergency medicine in 2014, leaving behind the stress of making continuous life- and limb- decisions every shift, as well as night and weekend coverage. Randi is still working as a nurse practitioner in travel medicine. John and Randi traveled recently to Italy, Egypt, Vietnam, and South Africa, as well as to South Dakota with John’s brothers and their wives.
45th Flashback: Luther Munford participated in an alumni-faculty forum titled "K-12 Education: Meeting the Challenges of an American Education.” He described the history of a 2015 attempt to use a voter initiative to amend the Mississippi state constitution to require an "adequate and efficient” public school system. The state’s Republican leadership opposed the amendment, and it fell short by a narrow margin. Also serving on the panel was Linda Blackburn’s niece, Hope Blackburn ’81, general counsel for the Jersey City public schools.
